My name is David Lucy and I am a DVSA Approved manual driving instructor providing professional driving lessons throughout Chelmsford, Witham, Tiptree, South Woodham Ferrers and the surrounding Essex areas.

Alongside my work as a driving instructor, I am also a professional cricket coach. Coaching has taught me how to listen carefully, recognise how each person learns and help people perform confidently when it matters most.

My pupils currently achieve an exceptional first-time-pass record of around 90%, with many completing their driving test without receiving a single driving fault.

Results matter, but my real aim is to help you become a calm, capable and genuinely safe driver who feels ready for independent driving.

My passion for driving and all things motoring has always been a major part of my life.

I am calm, patient, resourceful and determined, but above all I am a good listener.

Those same qualities are central to my work as a professional cricket coach. Whether someone is learning to drive or developing sporting skills, the best results come from understanding the individual rather than using one fixed teaching method.

Every lesson is adapted around your confidence, experience and preferred way of learning.

I will explain situations clearly, find different approaches when something does not immediately make sense and help you understand why each driving decision matters.

If you make a mistake, we will discuss it calmly, learn from it and use it to strengthen your driving.

My lessons combine a relaxed atmosphere with close attention to detail. This helps pupils enjoy learning while still reaching an exceptionally high driving standard.

My aim is not simply to help you pass your test. I want you to become the best and safest driver you can be.

Manual Driving Lessons

You will learn in my beautifully maintained and highly specified Ford Fiesta Vignale manual car.

The Ford Fiesta provides excellent visibility, responsive controls and a comfortable driving environment, making it ideal for learning clutch control, gear selection, junctions, roundabouts and manoeuvres.

I regard the car as a mobile classroom where every lesson can be structured around your progress and learning needs.

Lessons will steadily develop your road awareness, planning, decision-making and ability to deal safely with real-world driving situations.

Alongside teaching learner drivers, I work with local schools to introduce young people to the skills, responsibilities and enjoyment that can come with driving.
